Should I Consider Counselling?

If you have been affected by road death or injury, we often find that a course of counselling therapy can be helpful.

There are many reasons for seeking therapy. A person may be feeling upset or distressed, have problems with thoughts and feelings or with relationships with others. If feelings such as grief, anxiety, anger or shame are bottled up, they can become very intense and disturbing. Because of the close proximity of family or friends it can be difficult to find someone to talk to who is empathetic but who is that one important step away. Counselling with a person who neither judges nor tells you what to do can be vital for many people in helping them move forward.

SCARD and CADD offer free counselling in our purpose-built counselling rooms at the Mirfield offices. If you have been affected in any way by a road incident, whether you have lost a loved-one, been injured yourself, witnessed a traumatic road incident or its aftermath, or have been affected in some other way, we would like to help you. Our counsellors are all volunteers who have completed an intensive course of training in counselling and who may be further improving their skills with an approved qualification. If you are within reach of Mirfield, West Yorkshire, and feel that counselling could help you, please contact us.

If you are not able to get to Mirfield, we still may be able to help you access counselling. We can find you suitable counsellors in your area, and give you a list of contacts. We don't actually recommend counsellors other than our own, but we will give you several to choose from, and it will be up to you to decide on one that is suitable for you. This is a free service we offer to road incident victims, although the counsellors we put you in contact with may charge a fee for their services. Please ring us to find out more.

For a list of counsellors who are all CADD & SCARD members, and fully support our aims, please visit our Counsellor Directory.
